Hello
I'm Tamara, an experienced Therapeutic Counsellor based in Guildford.
My passion is supporting people to navigate life’s challenges, understand themselves more deeply, and find meaningful ways to move forward.
I have a caring and non-judgemental approach and aim to create a safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace.
I believe that even the hardest journeys can lead to new perspectives and a better understanding of yourself, and I’d love to provide the support to help you along the way.
Counselling is a deeply personal journey.
Finding the right fit is key.
I practice therapeutic counselling in Guildford. This means focuses on exploring how your past experiences, such as those from childhood or your more recent past, might be shaping the way you think, feel, and relate to others today.
This approach might be right for you if you’re curious about understanding yourself on a deeper level. Together, we’ll look at patterns in your life—like relationships that don’t feel quite right, recurring struggles, or emotions that seem hard to shake. My aim is to help you uncover the roots of these issues, so you can approach them with new insight and find ways to move forward.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s troubling you or have a clear “goal” for counselling. Sometimes, the best place to start is simply feeling stuck or knowing something doesn’t feel right. My role is to listen, reflect, and gently enable you to find the answers that feel authentic to you.
If you’re wondering whether this approach suits your needs, I’d love to have a chat to answer your questions and help you decide if I’m the right person to support you.
A little more about me
I’m a trained, qualified and regulated counsellor
I am a qualified and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), ensuring I adhere to their professional standards and code of ethics.
My accredited qualification in Psychotherapeutic Counselling reflects my commitment to providing a safe, effective, and ethical counselling service.
I bring a breadth of experience
In addition to my Guildford private counselling practice, I also dedicate time to voluntary counselling work.
I strongly believe that everyone should have access to support, regardless of their financial situation.
By balancing paid work with voluntary work, I aim to reach as many people as possible who need support.
I care about accessible support for everyone
As part of my commitment to supporting mental health I have volunteered with organisations such as Samaritans and other local mental health charities.
This work has deepened my understanding of the challenges people face and enriched my ability to listen and offer compassionate support.
Before training to become a Counsellor, I worked for 20 years in the charity sector for major national children’s and cancer care charities.
FAQs
Is this for me?
I work with adults of all ages who are facing a wide range of challenges, such as low mood, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties past and present, anger, bereavement, feelings of being stuck and major life changes. Whether you’re dealing with a specific issue or just feel like something isn’t quite right, I’m here to help.
What should I expect?
Counselling is a space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. Sessions are client-led, meaning we’ll focus on what’s most important to you each week. There’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do this — we’ll work together to find what feels most helpful for you.
What happens in a typical session?
Each session lasts 50 minutes and is a space for you to talk freely about whatever is on your mind. We’ll explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that works for you. There’s no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.
Do I need to prepare for the first session?
Not at all. There’s no need to prepare anything in advance—just come as you are. The first two sessions are a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
How many sessions should I have?
That’s entirely up to you. Some people find a short term approach helpful, while others prefer open-ended work to explore their experiences more deeply over time. We’ll talk about what feels right for you during your initial consultation.
Can I stop counselling at any time?
Absolutely. Counselling is your journey, and you’re in control. You can stop at any time, but I encourage you to discuss this with me beforehand so we can reflect on your progress and create an ending that feels supportive and well-rounded for you.
What does it cost?
Counselling sessions cost £60. If cost is a concern, please let me know, as I may be able to explore options with you, such as reduced fees for those in financial difficulty.
Where would we meet? Can I be remote?
We’d meet at The Practice therapy rooms in the centre of Guildford, GU1. My preference is to meet in person, but online or telephone options are available, if appropriate.
What’s the small print?
You can see my Terms of Counselling here. This document outlines the detail of how we’d work together.
What now?
If you’re interested in finding out more, get in touch and we can organise a free 20 minute telephone conversation to allow us to get to know each other.
If then you’d like to take the next step, we would book a 50 minute initial consultation. We’d meet face to face at The Practice, in the centre of Guildford. During this, we’ll explore the issues you’d like to focus on and the changes you’re hoping for. Together, we’ll discuss your options — whether that’s working for a set period or taking a more open-ended, exploratory approach. I offer this session at half price.
Both of these are an opportunity for you to see if I’m the right person to support you. It’s your time to ask questions, understand what to expect, and make sure you feel comfortable before deciding to move forward.
You can then decide if you would like to carry on working together.
